Real world example: Building a change network through Design Thinking
When working with a government organisation undergoing significant transformation, we needed to build internal capability for human-centred approaches across all departments. Rather than running one-off training sessions, we coached staff organisation-wide in design thinking methodologies through hands-on workshops.
The breakthrough was creating a 'Change Network' of internal champions: people from different departments who became ongoing advocates for design thinking approaches. These champions learned to facilitate their own sessions, collect feedback across their teams, and adapt the methodologies to their specific contexts.
We supported this with purpose-built collaborative workspaces across multiple locations, encouraging teams to 'work on the walls' and think visually. Each workshop included comprehensive documentation providing participants with session records and agreed next steps, ensuring momentum continued beyond the room.
The result was sustained organisational capability that outlasted any individual project. Teams continued using design thinking approaches to tackle their own challenges, and the Change Network became a valuable resource for spreading human-centred practices throughout the organisation.
