Real world example: Discovering what strategic change really means
When working with a government organisation, leadership knew they needed a strategic framework for transformation but weren't sure how to make it meaningful for day-to-day operations. Rather than imposing a top-down strategy, we started by understanding what the organisation's core purpose actually meant to people doing the work.
Through a 6-month co-creation project, we discovered that staff understood the strategic importance of their work but struggled to connect daily activities to these broader outcomes. The real problem wasn't lack of strategy, it was the gap between strategic intent and operational reality.
We grounded all change initiatives around an existing organisation framework, translating strategic objectives into actionable operational improvements that staff could see and feel in their work. This meant helping teams understand how their specific roles contributed to the core function of the organisation.
The result was meaningful change that culminated in a successful board demonstration, but more importantly, staff felt connected to the organisation's mission in ways that improved both customer-centred outcomes and employee engagement. By solving the right problem (disconnection between strategy and purpose) we created lasting organisational alignment.
